JENNY GAVIN KIM | 김가빈
Jenny Kim is a Korean-Australian printmaking artist, migrated from South Korea and living in Naarm/Melbourne since 2014. She is a Fine Arts Honours student at RMIT University. Her practice demonstrates diaspora through the notion of void/sky as connective matter conjoining her coexisting binary cultural identities and harmonizing the two different kinds of home. Kim utilises reminiscing as a way to connect to her diluted Korean identity, as well as demonstrating the cultural wonders and nostalgia in celestial space and sky.
Kim has exhibited her works in ‘Hush’ (2024) RMIT Swanston Library and ‘3rd Year A4 Art Show’ (2025) RMIT SiteEight Gallery. She was the recipient of New Colombo Plan scholarship, funding RMIT’s internationally collaborative workshop, ‘Creative practice as Civil Action’ (2024) in Nepal.
김가빈 작가는 한국계 호주인 판화를 주로 다루며, 한국에서 이주해 2014년부터 나라(Naarm)/멜버른에서 거주하고 있다. 현재 RMIT University에서 순수미술 학사 우등과정(Fine Arts Honours)을 공부하고 있다. 그녀의 작업은 ‘공허/하늘(void/sky)’을 서로 공존하는 두 문화적 정체성을 연결하고, 서로 다른 두 종류의 ‘집’을 조화시키는 매개체로 바라보며 디아스포라의 경험을 드러낸다. 작가는 희미해져가는 자신의 한국적 정체성과 연결하기 위한 방법으로 회상(reminiscing)을 활용하며, 동시에 천상의 공간과 하늘 속에 담긴 문화적 경이로움과 향수를 표현한다.
김가빈 작가는 ‘Hush’(2024, RMIT Swanston Library)와 ‘3rd Year A4 Art Show’(2025, RMIT SiteEight Gallery)에서 작품을 선보였다. 또한 New Colombo Plan 장학생으로 선정되어, 네팔에서 진행된 RMIT의 국제 협력 워크숍 ‘Creative Practice as Civil Action’(2024)에 참여하기 위한 지원을 받았다.

Kaylee Lim is a Malaysian-Australian artist based in Sydney, Australia, working across porcelain, installation, sculpture, and painting. Her practice explores themes of diaspora, cultural identity, belonging, and racialisation through the appropriation and transformation of transnational cultural iconography. Drawing on her experiences as a second-generation Malaysian-Chinese Australian, Lim investigates how cultural symbols accumulate meaning as they move across histories of migration, colonialism, and cultural exchange.
Lim completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), where she developed a research-led studio practice examining Asian diasporic identity within the Australian context. Her work has been exhibited in group exhibitions including presentations at N Smith Gallery and Wu Art Gallery. Alongside her studio practice, Lim works as a Visual Arts educator. Through humour, repetition, and material experimentation, her work seeks to challenge inherited narratives of identity while creating new possibilities for understanding diasporic experience.
케일리 림은 호주 시드니를 기반으로 활동하는 말레이시아계 호주인 작가로, 도자, 설치, 조각, 회화 등 다양한 매체를 아우르며 작업한다. 그녀의 작업은 초국가적 문화 도상(iconography)을 차용하고 변형하는 방식을 통해 디아스포라, 문화적 정체성, 소속감, 인종화와 같은 주제를 탐구한다. 말레이시아계 중국인 2세 호주인으로서의 경험을 바탕으로, 작가는 이주, 식민주의, 문화적 교류의 역사를 가로지르며 이동하는 문화적 상징들이 어떻게 새로운 의미를 축적해가는지를 살펴본다.
작가는 University of New South Wales(UNSW)에서 순수미술 학사 우등과정(Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours))을 졸업했으며, 호주라는 맥락 속에서 아시아 디아스포라의 정체성을 탐구하는 연구 중심의 스튜디오 작업을 발전시킨다. 작가의 작품은 N Smith Gallery와 Wu Art Gallery를 비롯한 여러 단체전에 출품되었으며, 작가 활동과 더불어 시각예술 교육자로도 활동하고 있다. 유머와 반복, 그리고 다양한 재료에 대한 실험을 통해, 작가는 사회와 문화 속에서 물려받은 정체성에 대한 서사에 질문을 던지는 동시에 디아스포라적 경험을 새롭게 이해할 수 있는 가능성을 모색한다.

Eileen Ko is a Korean-American photographer and visual storyteller. She was raised in Seoul and Georgia and is currently based in New York. She began photography at the age of 16 and has continued to develop her image-making practice while studying at Parsons School of Design. Her work explores themes of invisibility, challenging viewers to engage with what is hidden. Through fashion and portrait photography, she creates colorful, imaginative images that blur the line between reality and perception. Her recent work, ‘What is Church?’, was exhibited in the 2025 Parsons BFA Photography Thesis Show.
고우림 작가는 한국계 미국인 사진가이자 비주얼 스토리텔러이다. 서울과 미국 조지아에서 성장했으며, 현재 뉴욕을 기반으로 활동하고 있다. 16세에 사진을 시작한 이후 Parsons School of Design에서 공부하며 자신의 이미지 작업을 지속적으로 발전시켜 왔다.
작가의 작업은 ‘보이지 않음(invisibility)’을 주요 주제로 삼으며, 관람객이 감춰진 것에 주목하고 이를 마주하도록 유도한다. 패션 및 인물 사진을 통해 현실과 인식의 경계를 흐리는 다채롭고 상상력 넘치는 이미지를 만들어낸다. 최근 작업인 《What is Church?》는 2025 Parsons BFA Photography Thesis Show에 전시되었다.

Mana “Maro” Sugimoto is an emerging artist living on unceded Wallumattagal country (Sydney, Australia) specialising in ceramic sculpture. Her work features monuments and icons of deforme characters to counteract popular Japanese visual cultures founded on the accelerated consumption, exploitation and disposal of usually feminine, thus vulnerable objects. Since selection for ARTEXPRESS 2024 at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Maro has been selected for group exhibitions at various commercial and artist-run spaces including Gallery LNL, Verge Gallery, Scratch Art Space and Borderspace. As a third-year BVA student at Sydney College of the Arts (The University of Sydney), Maro continues to deconstruct Japanese and English-language subcultures through ceramic images and forms. She is currently researching the social sciences of “cuteness”, ‘moe’, and the illusive tropes of the ‘Shōjo’, or the paradox of the immortalised young girl.
마나 ‘마로’ 스기모토는 비할양된 월루마타갈(Wallumattagal) 땅인 호주 시드니를 기반으로 활동하는 신진 작가로, 세라믹 조각을 중심으로 작업한다. 작가는 기형적캐릭터를 모티브로 대상의 가속화된 소비와 착취, 폐기에 기반한 일본 대중 시각문화를 작품으로 승화시킨다.
작가는 2024년 Art Gallery of New South Wales의 ARTEXPRESS에 선정된 것을 시작으로, Gallery LNL, Verge Gallery, Scratch Art Space, Borderspace 등 다양한 상업 갤러리와 작가 주도 공간에서 진행된 단체전에 참여해왔다. 현재 Sydney College of the Arts(The University of Sydney)에서 BVA 3학년으로 재학중이며, 세라믹을 활용한 이미지와 형태를 통해 일본 및 영어권 서브컬처를 지속적으로 해체하고 재해석하는 작업을 이어나간다.
현재는 ‘귀여움(cuteness)’과 ‘모에(moe)’, 그리고 ‘소녀(Shōjo)’를 둘러싼 모호한 클리셰와 관습적 이미지, 즉 영원히 젊은 소녀로 박제된 존재가 지니는 역설에 관해 지속적으로 연구한다.

Chaewon Tiffany Moon is a Korean artist based in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. Currently enrolled at the School of Visual Arts in New York City studying Fine Arts, Moon layers different mediums ranging from paints and pastels to found objects, papers and cloth on the canvas, creating fragmented imagery.
Moon’s works construct hybrid landscapes with silhouetted figures moving in collective presence. She explores the human psyche where intense feelings–angst, longing, alienation, disorientation–collapse into a shared, condensed energetic state.
Growing up between Korea and Western environments, constantly moving between places, cultures, and emotional landscapes, these experiences are layered into disorienting imagery. Alongside a broader sense of loss and in-betweenness, Moon translates intensely felt emotions and experiences into symbolic objects and actions.
문채원 작가는 대한민국 경기도를 기반으로 활동하며, 현재 뉴욕에 위치한 School of Visual Arts에서 순수미술을 전공하고 있다. 작가는 물감과 파스텔부터 오브제, 종이, 천에 이르기까지 다양한 매체를 캔버스 위에 중첩시켜 파편화된 이미지를 만들어낸다.
작가는 실루엣으로 표현된 인물들이 집단적인 존재감을 드러내며 움직이는 혼성적 풍경을 구성한다. 불안, 갈망, 소외, 방향감각의 상실과 같은 강렬한 감정들이 하나의 공유되며, 응축된 에너지 상태로 뒤섞이는 인간의 내면에 대해 질문한다.
한국과 서구의 환경을 오가며 성장하고, 끊임없이 장소와 문화, 정서적 풍경 사이를 이동해온 경험은 작가의 작업 속에서 혼란스럽고 낯선 이미지로 중첩되어 나타난다. 더 넓은 의미의 상실감과 어디에도 완전히 속하지 못하는 ‘사이의 상태’를 바탕으로, 작가는 강렬하게 체감한 감정과 경험을 상징적인 사물과 행위로 번역해낸다.

Roy Shin is a fashion design student and photographer currently serving in the Korean military. Shin recently completed his second year at Parsons School of Design.
Although fashion is an important part of his studies, photography remains his main creative interest. While living in New York, Shin was inspired by the diverse ways people expressed themselves through clothing, as well as the city’s architecture and built environment.
After returning to Korea, Shin continues photographing people and his surroundings, becoming particularly interested in older generations whose clothing reflects individuality, practicality, and personal expression beyond current trends. Shin’s work is also shaped by periods of social withdrawal, when engaging with the outside world felt difficult. During this time, windows became a way to observe life from a safe distance while remaining connected to the world outside. Since then, photographing through windows has become an important part of practice, exploring distance, connection, and everyday life.
신동민 작가는 국내와 해외를 기반으로 패션 디자인 전공 학생이자 사진가이다. 최근 Parsons School of Design에서 2학년 과정을 마쳤다.
패션은 그의 학업에서 중요한 부분을 차지하지만, 사진은 여전히 그의 가장 큰 창작적 관심사이다. 뉴욕에서 생활하며 사람들이 옷을 통해 자신을 표현하는 다양한 방식과 도시의 건축 및 공간에서 영감을 받았다.
국내에서도 작가는 사람들과 주변 환경을 계속 촬영하며, 특히 유행을 따르기보다 개성과 실용성, 개인적인 표현을 담아내는 특정 지역의 노년층에 관심을 갖게 되었다.
작가는 외부 세계와 거리를 두었던 시기의 경험에서도 영향을 받는다. 특히나 ‘창문’ 의 시각적 은유, 안전한 거리에서 세상을 바라보면서도 바깥과 연결될 수 있는 하나의 통로로 바라보며, 이후 그 너머의 것을 활영하며 거리감과 연결, 그리고 일상의 모습을 탐구하고 있다.
